Maintenance of Way is comprised of six functional areas:
- Line Equipment Division (Telephones, EMD and Lighting)
- Track Division. Track is comprised of System and Subway Maintenance, which is responsible for the inspection and maintenance of mainline tracks, yard tracks, mainline and yard switches, and cleaning station tracks and roadbeds system-wide.
Also, the In-House Capital Track group reconstructs mainline track, mainline switches and Continuous Welded Rail (CWR). - Infrastructure Division is comprised of the following sections:
Carpenters, Masons, Ironworkers, Sheet Metal Workers, Plumbers, Painters, HVAC, Elevators & Escalators. All maintenance supervisors who work under Infrastructure supervise hourlies in their respective skill specialty. - Third Rail Operations. Maintenance Supervisors inspect and maintain mainline track, train yards, under river tunnels and Circuit Breaker Houses.
- Electric Power/Power Cable Maintenance Division. Supervisors oversee power cable and substation maintainers.
- Signals Division. Maintenance Supervisors oversee signal maintainers in the inspection and repairs of the NYCT vast signal system including switches.
